The Government proposes a minimum wage of 760 euros next year

The national minimum wage is expected to go from the current 705 euros to 760 euros in January 2023, according to the Government’s proposal for an income and competitiveness agreement that is being debated this Thursday in the Social Dialogue.

According to the document to which Lusa had access, the value of the minimum wage proposed for next year it will thus be 10 euros above what was previously foreseen to ensure, according to the Government, an additional differential to offset the impacts of inflation.

The objective of reaching 900 euros at the end of the legislature is maintained.

“The value of the guaranteed minimum monthly remuneration will reach the value of at least 900 euros in 2026, safeguarding the purchasing power of workers and ensuring the growth trajectory that began in 2016”, can be read in the medium-term agreement proposal. deadline to improve incomes, wages and competitiveness.

The Government proposes that the minimum wage increase to 760 euros in 2023, 810 euros in 2024, 855 euros in 2025 and 900 euros in 2026.

To deal with these increases in the minimum wage, “in the contracts for the acquisition of cleaning, security and human surveillance services and canteen services with a multi-year duration, entered into prior to January 1, 2023 or, as the case may be, if completed after that date, the original proposals have been submitted on a date prior to January 1, 2023, for which the labor component indexed to the RMMG [Remuneração Mensal Mínima Garantida] is the determining factor in the formation of the contractual price, an extraordinary update of the price is allowed, to the extent strictly necessary to restore the value of the contracted services”, proposes the executive.

In the previous proposal, presented on September 28, the Government had indicated that there would be an additional differential in the minimum wage to compensate for inflation, but did not advance figures.

The President of the Government, António Costa, said that he wanted to reach an understanding in the Social Dialogue on the agreement before Monday, the day on which the proposal for the State Budget for 2023 (OE2023), which already includes some of the the measures of the agreement.
