The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced today, Wednesday, in an official statement, that the Russian women’s team will not be able to participate in the World Basketball Championship scheduled for this year in Australia.
The International Basketball Federation justified its decision through Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, in a blatant violation of the principle of non-violence in sport and politics, which has been adopted by the sports community for many years.
The federation said in their statement that the Puerto Rican team will participate instead of the Russian team in the tournament in Australia scheduled between September 22 and October 1.

The International Federation has also decided to remove Russian and Belarusian men who have chosen to participate in the European qualifiers for World Cup basketball in 2023 and thus deny them participation in World Cup basketball.
