NAACP President Derrick Johnson called Washington Command defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio after the coach’s comments on January 6 angered leftists.
Del Rio was upset after wondering why everyone was ignoring months of turmoil in the BLM and only focusing on the January 6 riots in the capital.
Monday Del Rio answered In the committee’s report of the January 6 hearing, published by the left-wing Brookings Institution, he wrote with a question: “I hope I can understand the ‘whole story’ of why rioting, looting, arson were not discussed in the summer and destruction of personal property, but is it?”
Del Rio has been criticized by the left for appearing to focus only on the riots in the Capitol, while questioning why the George Floyd riots were ignored after months of turmoil, billions of properties destroyed, and even deaths.
Del Rio later apologized for expressing his opinion, as other sports figures do. But an apology isn’t enough for NAACP President Derrick Johnson.
“It’s time for Jack Del Rio to retire or be fired,” Johnson said, according to Pro Football Talk.
“His comments couldn’t have been more offensive and ignorant. The January 6 uprising – a coup attempt – was far from “crazy”. Every day we learn more about how close our democracy is to autocracy,” Johnson exclaimed. “It is a misnomer to downplay the uprising by comparing it to nationwide protests in response to a public lynching attempt. You can’t coach most black teams while you turn your back on the black community. It’s time to pack up and leave the field.”
Johnson isn’t the only liberal to prey on Del Rio’s scalp. Virginia State Senator Jeremy McPike Exploded Commanders responded to Del Rio’s comment and insisted the announcement was “a nail in the coffin” for a group that received extra taxpayer money.
Commanders did not respond to Johnson’s requests. However, when Del Rio refused to apologize for his comments, it was clear that the team was already leaning on Del Rio for the incident.
