Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast) goalkeeper Sylvain Gbouo has been suspended by FIFA for 18 months after testing positive for a banned substance in a sample last year.

Tests revealed the presence of trimetazidine, a heart medication, in Gboho’s sample, which is classified as a stimulant by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper tested positive for drugs during a World Cup qualifier in November against Cameroon and has also been suspended and missed this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

“Due to the presence of a prohibited substance in his sample, the player violated article 6 of the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations and article 17 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” FIFA said in a statement.

Gboho, who plays for Ethiopia’s Vekete City, made 65 appearances for Côte d’Ivoire and was part of his country’s squad when they won the 2015 Nations Cup.
