The British cyclist Geraint Thomas (INEOS) won the Tour of Switzerland this Sunday, after finishing second in the eighth and last stage, a time trial won by the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (QuickStep-Alpha Vynil).
The winner of the last Volta ao Algarve took 28.26 minutes to complete the 25.6 kilometers of the individual exercise, starting and finishing in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, three seconds less than Thomas and 10 seconds less than the Swiss Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ ).
Thomas ‘stole’ the lead from Colombian Sergio Higuita (BORA-hansgrohe), who today was only 11th in the streak, 1.17 behind Evenepoel.
To claim his first stage win since the 2021 Tour de Romandia, Thomas finished 1.12 minutes ahead of Higuita and 1.16 over Denmark’s Jakob Fuglsang (Israel-Premier Tech).
The Portuguese Nelson Oliveira (Movistar) was 36th today in the ‘time trial’, at 2.30 minutes, finishing the race in 25th position, at 29.24 minutes.
