Former Premier League goalkeeper Noel Whelan has spoken out about Newcastle United’s desire to sign Lille star Sven Putman.
Speaking to him, Whelan said: “If they’re really serious about building a team and being a competitive force next year and having more wins than losses at St. James Park, then unfortunately you’re going to have to face some of these players.
“These are really good international players that you look at, they are not the kind of players that Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, etc. are counting on, but they will definitely push you into the first half of this league.”
He concluded: “In my opinion, that’s where they need to start, maybe they need to spend a little more than other clubs can, because of their wealth, and also because they have put together a team that will take the next step in this direction. ladder they keep talking about five, six years from now “Seven years they want to be a challenge for the Premier League title, well he’s starting now, unfortunately he might start paying a little more.
