Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge, the world record holder, will run the Berlin Marathon on September 25, his team announced on Friday.

Kipchoge, who won Olympic gold in this race at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo last summer, is aiming for a fourth first place in Berlin to match Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie’s record.

Kipchoge broke the world record in the Berlin race in particular four years ago when he clocked 2:01:39 hours.

“The Berlin race is the fastest,” Kipchoge said.

Kipchoge, 37, has an impressive record in the 42k marathon, winning 14 of the 16 races he has entered, including two Olympic golds and nine major race victories.

It is noteworthy that Kenya will be represented by three marathon runners at the World Championships scheduled in Eugene from the 15th to the 24th of this year, these are Barnabas Kiptum, Lawrence Chirono and Jeffrey Kamworor.

Kipchoge took first place in the Tokyo Marathon on March 6.
