The Peruvian Football Association has confirmed the departure of Argentina coach Ricardo Gareca after seven years of leading the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a 36-year absence from the World Cup.

The Peruvian Federation wrote on social media: “Thank you for making us experience one of the best football eras in Peru, which will remain in everyone’s memory.”
“We hope you continue to achieve success in your career,” he added.

In a statement, the federation expressed its deep gratitude to Garika and his technical staff: “For more than seven years he has worked with the first team with remarkable professionalism and great dedication. He understood how to achieve sporting achievements, relying on his strengths and the capabilities of the players.

Notably, Gareca coached Peru in 2015 and led them in 96 matches, recording 41 wins, 19 draws and 36 losses, the most recent against Australia on penalties on 13 June, ending Peru’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
