Moataz Barshim of Qatar won a third consecutive world title by winning gold in the high jump at the 18th World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, USA.

Barshim, the Tokyo Olympic champion, along with his Italian friend Gianmarco Tampere, succeeded in achieving his achievement by clearing five consecutive hurdles on his first attempt, the last of which was 2.37m ahead of South Korean Wu Sanhyuk (2.35m), while while Bronze went back to Ukrainian Andrey Protsenko, who presented his country with the first medal in the tournament for his country.

Barshim started the competition by deciding not to cross the 2.19m barrier and immediately moved up to 2.24m, then 2.27m, 2.30m, 2.33m, 2.35m, then 2.37m. m without a single error.

The South Korean, who beat Barshim at the Diamond League meeting in Doha last May, tried to put pressure on Barshim when he asked to go straight to the 2.39m barrier after he failed his first attempt at 2.37m, but he failed in two attempts and was satisfied with the silver.

This is Qatar’s fifth gold at the world championships, in addition to two silver and three bronze.

“Praise God, this achievement didn’t come out of nowhere,” said Barshim. “Frankly, there’s been a lot of work and effort in the past eight months that has paid off.”

“The competition was tough and strong, but I was focused on myself, didn’t feel pressure and was ready for the title,” he added.
