Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has expressed his full support for Erling Haaland after he missed opportunities in the Manchester City v Liverpool Community Shield Cup.

Guardiola has confirmed he is proud of the performance of his players in Manchester City’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

Guardiola told Manchester City’s official website: “It’s nice for Haaland to see reality in a new country and a new league, but he’s been there, he hasn’t scored, he has incredible quality and he will.”

He added: “When Haaland scored in the United States, everyone was talking about how much they liked him, he was there and he had his moments, nothing changes, he’s strong, he’ll score again, that’s football.”

He continued: “Congratulations to Liverpool, at first they were better and then we got into the atmosphere of the match, we started the second half better, we were really good, we created a lot of opportunities to win.”

“Now we need to improve, we need to train this month to get into the rhythm, and we will do it,” he concluded.
