Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) took the lead this Thursday in the blackmail which kicked off the Rally Belgium, the World Rally Championship that could crown the Finnish driver Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) as the new champion.
running home, Neuville was the fastest at the start of the ninth round of the world championship (WRC), beating the two Toyota Finns: Esapekka Lappi was second by two seconds and Rovanperä was third by three seconds.
On Friday, the drivers complete the first eight timed specials at Ypres, out of a total of 20, in a race in which Rovanperä could reach the world titlesince he has 198 points, 94 more than the Estonian Ott Tänak (Hyundai), second, and 95 more than Neuville, third.
At 21, the Finn, the son of another former WRC driver, Harri Rovanperä, could become world champion for the first time, and the youngest in the history of the championship, having won five races so far this season, including the Rally of Portugal.
