Russell told the court he had received the photos from fellow MP Joey Cruz on the day of the accident.
Cruz told jurors that he showed the photos to bartender Victor Gutierrez in January 2020 in Norco, California. The photos allegedly showed mutilated body parts on the slope in Calabasas, where the helicopter crashed.

Prosecutors alleged Cruz and Gutiérrez laughed and joked while looking at photos with other patrons at the bar, and cited footage of the jury taken from the bar as evidence. Cruz and Gutierrez denied the allegations.
