German international midfielder Julian Draxler will represent Benfica until the end of the season, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, the leader of the Portuguese soccer league announced this Thursday in a statement.
“Midfielder Julian Draxler, 28, is a reinforcement of the Sport Lisboa e Benfica professional football team. World champion in 2014, the German international arrives at the club on loan for the 2022/23 season from Paris Saint-Germain.
The mannschaft world champion in Brazil in 2014 has a total of seven goals in 58 international matches and completed his training with the German Schalke 04, having made his debut in the first team in the 2010/11 season.
He continued with the Gelsenkirchen team until the start of the 2015/16 season, before leaving for German Wolfsburg for 43 million euros, remaining with the “wolves” for a year and a half.
In January 2017, Draxler was signed by Paris Saint-Germain, for 36 million euros, at that time managed by the Spanish Unai Emery, and spent six consecutive seasons in Paris, the 2017/18 and 2018/2019 seasons being in the ones that had the most use, with more than 40 games in each.
However, the new attacking midfielder of the current leader of the Portuguese First League has not played an official match since the end of March, due to a right knee injury.
Draxler is the eighth signing secured by Benfica for the new season, after Alexander Bah, João Victor, Mihailo Ristic, Enzo Fernández, Fredrik Aursnes, David Neres and Petar Musa.
