The mother, Latira Shonti Hunt, was charged last year with aiding the delinquency of a minor and on one count of assault. She faces up to one year in prison.
An Orange County judge allowed Hunt to participate in a distraction program that included a written letter of apology, compensation, and anger management lessons before attending basketball games. He should also stay away from the victim.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a press release, “An adult who incites a child to abuse another child on the basketball court deserves to be convicted.” Said. “By ordering violence against his own son, he not only bears the responsibility of hurting an innocent child as if he had hit him with his own fist, but he also turned his own son into a person who wanted to harm another child.”
