Benfica intends to show that it has a team to match and return to the group stage of the Women’s Soccer Champions League, said coach Filipa Patão, in anticipation of the second access round.
We always come to win and we want to show that we have a team up to the task. The club is making a very strong commitment to the feminine. It’s important to be among the best and that means being in the Champions League group stage”, said the ‘Águilas’ coach.
The two-time national champion visits Rangers this Tuesday, in the first leg of the second round of access, at Ibrox Stadium, in Glasgow (7:30 p.m.), and receives the Scots on Wednesday, September 28 at Seixal.
“We will try to make the most of the weaknesses of the opposing team and try to damage him through our fast and mobile players, mainly through the side corridors“, said Filipa Patão, in a match in which she will already have the Portuguese international Jéssica Silva.
Amélia Silva and fellow Portuguese internationals Catarina Amado and Francisca Nazareth are out due to injury, as well as center and captain Sílvia Rebelo, who received two yellow cards on matchday 1, against Hajvalia and Twente.
In that first phase, Benfica defeated Hajvalia 9-0 and Twente 2-1.
“Benfica has great track record, it will be a competitive game, but we trust. I am sure that we will get the victory in Scotland and Lisbon”, Brazilian striker Valéria Cantuário said on Monday.
The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with Ivana Martincic, from Croatia, refereeing.
