Boston Celtics owner and NBA runner-up Wake Grosbeck said coach Amy Odok’s one-year suspension was the result of a months-long investigation by an outside law firm after he committed “multiple violations” of the team’s bylaws.

Wake Grosbeck gave no further details about this unprecedented NBA event, while several US media reported that Odoka had a “close, consensual relationship” with a club employee. She added that she accused him of making derogatory comments, prompting team members to launch an internal investigation.

Regarding the harsh punishment suffered by the 45-year-old coach, Grosbeck said: “I think it is justified and appropriate given the evidence and the facts. Amy accepted it,” adding that it would come with a “heavy fine.” but did not specify whether there was a deduction from his salary in his contract until June 30/June 2023 and whether the coach will return to his position after the end of the penalty period.

Regarding the mental state of the players at the moment, he added: “They are very worried … but I feel that they have the energy, focus and desire to do more next season.”

The Celtics, who have won 17 league titles most recently in 2008, will be coached by assistant coach Joe Mazzola.

Oduka took charge of the Celtics last year, replacing Brad Stevens, who was named head of the club’s basketball department.

The Celtics reached the NBA Finals last June for the first time since 2010, when they lost 2-4 to the Golden State Warriors.
