Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal entered tennis history on Monday, becoming the first Spaniards to hold the top two positions in the world ranking at the same time.
The young Alcaraz, 19, remained at the top of the hierarchy, while Nadal, 17 years older, rose to second place, in exchange for the Norwegian Casper Ruud.
No duo from the same country has occupied the first two places in the ATP ranking since August 7, 2000.when the top of the hierarchy was occupied by Americans Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.
In the rest of the world top-10, there was only one more change, with the rise of the Polish Hubert Hurkacz to 10th place, with the Italian Jannik Sinner falling two places, also being surpassed by the American Taylor Fritz.
João Sousa is still the Portuguese number onedespite having dropped one position to 62nd, with Nuno Borges falls two places and is now in position 94after having reached the second round of an ATP tournament outside of Portugal for the first time in his career, in Sofia.
In the women’s ranking, the Polish Iga Swiatek maintains the leadfollowed by tunisian Ons Jabeurwhile Estonian Anett Kontaveit “stole” third place from the Spanish Paula Badosa.
