FIA fines Red Bull seven million, Verstappen retains 2021 title

Red Bull has agreed to pay a fine of seven million euros and reduce the use of the wind tunnel by one year for exceeding the cost limit in 2021, the International Automobile Federation announced on Friday.

The already world champion team accepts, therefore, to have breaking the cost control regulations for having exceeded the ceiling of 145 million euros.

However, this is considered a “minor infringement” because the amount spent in excess is less than five percent of the allowed amount (according to the conclusions of the International Federation (FIA), Red Bull used about 500 thousand euros more, which equals 0.37 percent of the allowed value).

In a sentence, the FIA ​​reveals that the team “has always been cooperative” with the investigationproviding “all the requested elements”, for which, the FIA ​​concludes, “there are no indications of bad faith”.

Thus, Red Bull agreed to pay a fine of seven million euros and suffer a Minor Sporting Sanction, whichwhich translates into a reduction of around 10 percent in the time of use of the wind tunnel for the development of its single-seater.

The British team will also bear all the procedural costs.

Thus, the ghost of the loss of points in the 2021 season, which could mean the loss of the drivers’ title against the Dutchman Max Verstappen, defeated after a duel with the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in the last race of the season, in Abu Dhabi.
