Paulo Bento confirms his goodbye to the South Korean team. “I’m going to rest and then I’ll see what I do”

The Portuguese Paulo Bento announced this Monday that he will stop being the coach of South Korea, after the defeat against Brazil (4-1), in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, in Qatar.

Our participation ended here and, now, it’s time to think about the future, which will not go through the Korean team. I’m going to rest and then I’ll see what I do. I just told the players, the president, it’s a decision I’ve made since September. Today I ended up just confirming it and thanking everything they did and everything they gave, ”he said.

In the press conference after the match with Brazil, Paulo Bento said that he “could not be more proud” to have coached the South Korean team, which he has led since 2018. “If it wasn’t the best group I’ve ever worked with, it was certainly one of the best,” he said.

About the round of 16 match, Paulo Bento said he was “sad about the result, but very proud of what these guys have done in these four years.”

This was Paulo Bento’s second World Cup as coach, after having led Portugal in the 2014 World Cup, when the “quinas” team did not make it past the group stage.

At Estádio 974, in Doha, Vinícius Júnior, after seven minutes, Neymar, after 13 minutes, from a penalty, Richarlison, after 29 minutes, and Lucas Paquetá, after 36 minutes, scored the goals for the ‘canarinhos’ , champions in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002, while Paik Seung-gho scored for the Asians, aged 76.
