An American newspaper has included two Russian missiles in its list of the best “air-to-air” missiles in the world.

US Military Watch Magazine includes two Russian missiles in its top seven “air-to-air” missiles, along with American, Iranian, European and Chinese missiles.

These are the missiles “R-37M” and “Ka-77M”, which occupy the second and third place in the rating, knowing that the promising Chinese PL-XX missile with unique characteristics leads in the first place.

But the newspaper mentioned the large weight of the Chinese missile, which allows the heavy Chinese J-16 fighter to carry only two missiles of this type.

“R-37M”

The R-37M missile was designed to carry a MiG-31 fighter to the Soviet Union. It has an operating range of 400 km, flies at Mach 6 (approximately 5,000 km/h) and is equipped with a 60 kg warhead, enough to destroy a fighter, flying tank or flying radar. The MiG-31 can carry 6 missiles of this type. The Su-30SM and Su-35 fighters were carrying 4 R-37M missiles.

The missile was developed in Russia to carry Fifth Army fighter aircraft in its body, and was also equipped with radar that captures every maneuver of enemy aircraft.

Ka-77M

The upgraded Ka-77M missile has a range of 400 km and is built to destroy small targets capable of maneuvering quickly like a fighter. The missile is currently considered the most effective missile for conducting mid-range air combat. NATO called it “gadioka” (snake).
