Russians will soon use the QR code on their smartphones when paying with the Russian Mir card

Holders of the Russian debit card “Mir” can pay using the QR code on their smartphones.

According to the Russian newspaper “Izvestia”, a QR code will be generated on the smartphone, which the seller will read at the time of purchase. This code will be generated within the Mir Pay program or on the application of a credit institution. According to the newspaper “Izvestia”, this opportunity will be valid from October 25.

A spokesman for Mir’s national payment system said that from October 25, banks that issue Mir cards will be able to guarantee a new payment scenario, including payments and returns using QR codes generated on a mobile device. This information was also confirmed by official representatives of Mir cards and major banks.

Russian Standard Bank and Otkritie Bank will participate in the development and implementation of the new technology. Experts believe it will be necessary to pay using a smartphone, especially after the separation of Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Note that Apple Pay and Google Pay are no longer available for Visa and Mastercard. And the same payment system announced the suspension of work in Russia against the background of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. And at the end of last March, the mobile payment system Apple Pay officially banned the possibility of connecting to Russian bank cards “Mir”.
