According to the forecasts of the pollen bulletin published by SPAIC, until June 23, moderate and high levels in the south of the continent and in the Azores archipelago. Low levels of pollen in the atmosphere are expected for the Madeira archipelago.
SPAIC adds that throughout the country, in the air, grass pollen grains and parietal herbsthat have a high allergenic capacity.
In the Lisbon and Setúbal region, pollens are found at very high levels, with a predominance of grasses and parietal herbs, and eucalyptus. In Porto (region between Douro and Minho), pollens are also found at very high levels, especially herbs and parietaria herbs and oak and chestnut trees.
According to SPAIC forecasts, in the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region, pollens come mainly from grasses, parietaria and banana, and from oak, olive and chestnut trees. In Coimbra (Beira Litoral region), pollen from grasses and parietarian herbs and from the olive tree predominates.
In the Beira Interior region, pollens from grasses and parietaria herbs and from olive, oak and chestnut trees stand out.
In Évora (Alentejo region), pollens are found at high levels in the atmosphere, with a predominance of grass pollens.
In the Algarve region, with moderate levels, pollens from grasses dominate.
According to SPAIC, outdoor activities should be avoided when pollen concentrations are high. “Walking in the garden, mowing the lawn, camping, or playing sports outdoors will increase your exposure to pollen and your risk of allergies,” he adds.
SPAIC also considers that medication will be the most effective way to combat allergy symptoms, recommends consulting a specialist in immunoallergy for the correct diagnosis and prescription of the most appropriate medication and warns that prevention “can go through of vaccines”. ”.
