In a court document, the group of lawyers representing Zhao criticized the automaker for “creating a toxic corporate culture based on racist and sexist abuse and discrimination against employees.”
Zhao’s lawyers added, “This toxic environment has been in the air within the company for many years, and only recently has the truth about Tesla’s culture emerged, leading to legal action from both regulators and individuals. ”
The lawyers lived with “financial damage and irreparable damage to the company’s reputation.”
The plaintiff believed that the group, 11 members of its board of directors and Musk, who is the CEO, ignored numerous “warnings”, which led to the dismissal of many highly qualified employees and incurred the company’s costs in making settling some lawsuits. or pay a fine.
Tesla was previously convicted of condoning racist treatment to one of its former employees at a plant in Fremont, California.
The group was first ordered to pay the plaintiff $ 137 million before the fine was reduced to $ 15 million.
The U.S. judiciary is also considering several cases filed by former employees who say they have been subjected to racist harassment because of their black skin color or offensive sexual comments from colleagues or company superiors.
In February, the California Office of Civil Affairs announced that it had filed a lawsuit against Tesla for racial discrimination in the workplace, confirming that it had received hundreds of complaints about it.
