Dry. Municipality of Gouveia calls for water saving

The municipality of Gouveia, in the district of Guarda, made a call this Wednesday to the inhabitants of the municipality so that, in the face of the drought, they use water in a “conscious” way and intensify “the care of saving water from the public network”.

Given the weather conditions, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees, the absence of rain and the consequent reduction in the volume of flows from the various water sources that supply the municipality, the municipality of Gouveia advocates moderate water consumption and an efficient use of it,” the municipality said in a statement released this Wednesday.

The municipality of Gouveia, chaired by Luís Tadeu, asked the population “to intensify the care of saving water from the public supply network for human consumption, eliminating its superfluous use and restricting its consumption to what is strictly necessary”.

According to the municipality, you should avoid washing vehicles, roofs or streets, watering or filling pools and tanks.

Only with the conscious and responsible help of all can we avoid major conditioning factors, such as pressure reduction, possible failures in the supply or possible rationing of the same. Remember that water is not an inexhaustible resource!”, highlighted the Municipality of Gouveia, in Serra da Estrela.

More than a quarter of the continent’s territory was in extreme drought at the end of June (28.4%), with an increase in particular in the South region and in some parts of the North and Central interior, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea. and of the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The rest of the territory was in severe drought (67.9%) and moderate drought (3.7%).

On the last day of May, 97.1% of the territory was in severe drought, 1.5 in moderate drought and 1.4 in extreme drought.

At the end of June, the percentage of water in the soil remained very low throughout the territory and especially in the North and Center inland regions, in the Tagus Valley, Alentejo and Algarve.

“It is worth mentioning the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Setúbal, Beja and Faro with values below 10% and in many places equal to the permanent wilting point,” the IPMA highlighted.
