The National Maritime Authority (AMN) and the General Directorate of Health (DGS) joined forces to raise awareness among the Portuguese population about caring for the beaches with the “Together for a safer summer” campaign.
In a statement, the two entities clarify that the campaign aims to “encourage responsible citizenshipthrough safety recommendations and behaviors to adopt on the beaches that help minimize the risk of bathing accidents”.
To minimize the number of accidents during the 2022 bathing season, AMN and DGS recommend that children are permanently supervisedfrequent supervised beaches, use appropriate footwear when accessing the beach and when using the bathroom facilities, and respect the signs on the beach.
They also recommend staying hydrated, eating light meals, respecting digestion periods, avoiding the hours of greatest sun exposure (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), using sunscreen, not approaching unstable cliffs, and respecting the instructions of lifeguards, of the order. officials and those who reinforce surveillance on the beaches.
