Report: Facebook employees prepare for layoffs

Facebook employees are reportedly expecting layoffs at the company that could cut the Silicon Valley giant’s headcount by up to 10 percent.

Business Insider reports that employees at Facebook (now known as Meta) expect massive layoffs at the company, with some believing up to ten percent of the workforce could be cut.

In a memo to employees earlier this month, Meta’s head of human resources, Laurie Goler, recommended firing employees who did not meet expectations as the company began operating at “increased intensity.”

Some company employees described the layoffs as a “witch hunt” and an attempt to get rid of the company’s underperforming employees. “It hasn’t started yet, but it’s getting close,” said one of the Insider staff.

People claiming to be Facebook employees posted on a job speculation board called The Layoff, which discussed the possibility of layoffs. A potential Facebook employee asked, “Do you think this will only affect underperformers?” She asked. He added: “Crazy if you ask me. The commodity wants to cut costs. The easiest way to do this without too much disruption is to get rid of people who make more money and replace them with new employees who make less money.”

Another user wrote: “I hope they put an end to this. The anticipation and stress that comes with it is worse than knowing. When I find out I’ve been fired, I can move on. It won’t be perfect, but at least I know what to do next. Just waiting and worrying is nothing but a burden to my health. Let us know and we’ll finish it.”

Another asked: “If we remove the bad performances, does that mean Zuckerberg has come out on top? I can’t think of anyone who has shown worse results than him in the last few years. Or is productivity only for us farmers, for those who drag us into this mess?
