Blackburn: Big tech platforms like TikTok create profiles to watch kids

On FBN’s “Fox Business Tonight” on Tuesday, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) warned that Big Tech is getting information from TikTok and other social media to create children’s profiles.

He warned that these profiles could be used against adults versus children.

“What we do know about these dangerous platforms like TikTok is that they get this information,” Blackburn said. Said. “Actually, they are the owners of the ‘virtual you’. Sean, they’re profiling our kids. They develop the profiles of future leaders. And they will have all this information. What will they do next? They will come back decades later and try to blackmail today’s children as they become adults.”

“This is something every parent should watch out for,” he continued. “I have compiled a security guide. I have it on my website. People may give up because it’s important that parents know they have to take responsibility for protecting their children online, and Congress needs to do something about it. I have a solution for that too.”

The Tennessee Republican, along with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), launched the Children’s Online Safety Act, which he sponsored.
