Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Bragança, Guarda and Castelo Branco are under an orange warning until 6:00 p.m. this Monday, due to the persistence of very high maximum temperature values, according to the IPMA.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the rest of the continent’s districts are under yellow alert, with the exception of Faro, the only one that is currently green.
Also according to the same source, the entire continent will have a very high ultraviolet index today, so it advises care such as avoiding the use of sunglasses, caps and t-shirts, umbrellas, sunscreen and that children do not expose themselves to the sun. sun
The orange warning, the second most serious on a scale of three, is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a moderate-high risk meteorological situation that requires attention to the Civil Protection guidelines, and the yellow, the least serious, is always issued that there is a risk for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
The IPMA had already warned of a sharp increase in temperature this weekend, with values that could reach 42º Celsius in the inland regions of the North, Center and Alentejo.
Due to the hot climate, more than 100 municipalities located mainly in the northern and central interior, but also in the Alentejo and the Algarve, present the highest rural fire danger, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to the Institute, the danger of rural fire will remain at maximum risk of fire in the interior north and center of the continent at least until Wednesday.
The National Authority for Emergencies and Civil Protection (ANEPC) also issued a warning to the population about the danger of fires until Monday, due to the expected high temperatures and low humidity, calling for preventive behavior.
For today, the IPMA forecasts hot weather on the continent with cloudy or clear skies with an increase in temperature, especially in the North and Center, and a weakening of the wind on the coast.
The minimum temperatures will range between 15 degrees Celsius (in Coimbra) and 23 (in Faro) and the maximum between 30 (in Aveiro) and 40 (in Évora and Castelo Branco).
