The Serra da Estrela fire has already consumed some 16,000 hectares of the natural park of the same name, the equivalent of 16,000 soccer fields. The fire had a perimeter of about 100 kilometers this Thursday, equivalent to the distance on the road between Castelo Branco and Guarda.
The populations are desperate before the advance of the flames, the destruction of the protected space is lamented, the mayors complain about the lack of coordination of the media and the firefighters defend that they should be the ones who manage them.
