Earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter scale recorded in the north of Portugal

An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the open Richter scale was recorded this Thursday in Portugal, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

So far, the IPMA has indicated not having received information that the earthquake was felt by the populationaccording to a statement.

The epicenter was located about 30 kilometers northwest of the city of Zamora, in northwestern Spain, it added.

On Wednesday, the IPMA recorded the occurrence of a earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale, at 9:20 p.m., with an epicenter 120 kilometers from Faro.

According to the information available to date, the earthquake “did not cause personal or material damage and was felt with maximum intensity III/IV [escala de Mercalli modificada] in the municipalities of Faro and Lagoa”, added the IPMA.

At the same time, the Spanish Geographic Institute also registered, in the Gulf of Cádiz, an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale.
