He was Founded in 1974 as a plastic products company, today it is “only” one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world, smart phones and a host of other electronic components. We refer to Foxconn, a Taiwanese company whose main clients include giants such as Apple and Microsoft. It so happens that this company also wants to have a say in this new “adventure” that is electric cars, which is why it has established different joint ventureswith the aim of maximizing the synergies resulting from the adoption of a common platform. It is this architecture, called Mobility in Harmony (MIH), that serves as the basis for the first electric model involving Foxtron, Foxconn’s newly created automotive division. It is an SUV with Pininfarina design which, shortly after its presentation, “broke down” the pre-booking website. And this without the revelation having been fertile in details…
The model in question has already collected more than 10,000 reservations, although it is not expected to be before the second half of 2023 and although all the technical specifications have not yet been released. It is an SUV that takes as its starting point the Foxtron Model C concept, presented in November 2021, but which now bears the name of Luxgen n7. It should be noted that Luxgen is a brand of Yulan Motor, Taiwan’s largest automaker, so this Foxtron connection has “resurrected” the much talked about Apple Car. The immediate acceptance and interest in the first battery-powered Foxconn car, as well as the the fact that this company has ensured that the Luxgen n7 will even go into production fuels rumors associating Apple’s future car with Foxconn – a company, by the way, that already manufactures iPhones.
Without shedding any light on what the Cupertino brand has in mind for its entry into the world of four wheels, the truth is that it was made public that Apple tried to secure the production of its future car with established manufacturers. But, apparently, the negotiation failed and all the doors were closed: from Hyundai-Kia to Nissan, passing through Toyota. Now with this entry of Foxconn in a production area that Apple does not dominate, suspicions are growing that the future iCar, or Apple Car, will also involve the outsourcing of manufacturing in Taiwan.
As for the Luxgen n7, it is very faithful to the style of the prototype designed in collaboration with the Pininfarina workshop.. At first glance, the production version undergoes very few changes, both at the front and at the rear, so the previously announced measurements should not be altered either. With a length of 4,640 m and a wheelbase of 2,860 m, the Luxgen n7 will offer space for seven occupants. which, from the outset, must be endowed with technology in generous doses. Especially since Foxconn is an expert in chips, which is why it was chosen by Stellantis for the creation and commercialization of new semiconductors for the automotive industry.
As for the essentials in an electric model, the battery, it is only known that it will appear integrated into a skateboard-type platform and that this base open source, created by Foxtron, allows to propose rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of up to 408 hp. Closer to launch, confirmation is expected that the autonomy of this SUV will be around 700 kmand the recharging operation can be “ultra-fast”.
The start of sales of the Luxgen n7 is scheduled for mid-October, for now in the domestic market. But the export is in the plans of both brands. In fact, Foxconn admitted to the press that it is considering setting up a factory in the US.
