The Ministry of Environment and Climate Action will provide institutional and financial support to the movement “Women for Climate, from the Portuguese-speaking countries to the world”, launched this Wednesday, and to its manifesto, guaranteed the secretary general of the ministry.
According to the official, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action “is deeply involved in the issues that this manifesto brings back to the table.”
“We are committed and we know we have to do it,” said Alexandra Carvalho, stressing that “Everything begins with the individual action of each one” and that the manifesto has “this in its genesis”.
In this context, he assured, the ministry “will continue to promote individual and collective action,” as well as “supporting institutionally and sometimes financially.”

The organization Business as Nature, chaired by Susana Viseu, launched the movement “Women for Climate, from Portuguese-speaking countries to the world”, in alliance with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, the CPLP and the Common House of The humanity.
The movement brings together women from different geographies and from the most varied sectors, from scientists, businesswomen, leaders, activists, educators, caregivers, politicians, journalists and influencers.
And it is “committed to the progress and well-being of communities and the sustainability of the planet, highlighting the need for a greater balance and approximation between human rights and climate action, with a focus on the implementation of sustainable development models”, as says the article presentation text.
According to the movement, in the current context of war and climate crisis, food insecurity and climate risk reach emergency levels that “above all affect the most vulnerable, the most disadvantaged and the most isolated”.
According to the United Nations, women, girls and marginalized communities are the groups most affected by climate change and must be integrated into the planning and implementation of actions aimed at preventing and mitigating climate risk, to ensure that everyone can also enjoy the benefits of these. behaviour.
Given this scenario, “the initiative reinforces the need to publicize and promote the importance of the work carried out by women as active agents, unavoidable in climate action, in the inseparable link between water, energy and food and in the promotion of sustainability”.

As a starting point for the movement, the manifesto “Mujeres por el Clima — Mujeres 4NUESTRO Clima” was also launched, in which the signatories commit to act and lead, by example, in the fight against climate change, both through of their individual and institutional actions. action. , or through the action and involvement of the organizations they represent.
In this sense, it endorses various objectives in five areas of action: politics, diplomacy and climate activism, empowerment and training, sustainable entrepreneurship, science, technology and knowledge, dissemination, communication, participation and cooperation and networking.
This first subscription session of the manifesto was especially aimed at ambassadors accredited in Portugal and ambassadors of the member states of the CPLP and observers, among other guests.

The executive secretary of the CPLP, Zacarias da Costa, said he believed that the governments “are mobilized for an active participation in the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP27, scheduled for next November in Egypt, an occasion that constitutes a space for excellence for the identification and definition of decisive decisions in the fight against climate change”.
“I hope that the CPLP achieves a good agreement on positions, making its voice heard and highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation in this field,” he said.
Zacarias da Costa also stressed that “the participation of women is essential for the process of sustainable development of the CPLP and for the sustainability of the planet.”
