Ferrari SP51: like this there are no others

The maxim that “money can’t buy everything” doesn’t apply to Ferrari Special Projects, the Maranello-based division of the manufacturer that tries to ensure that all customers’ wishes are attainable for a given price. The latest proof of this is the SP51, a unique Ferrari that starts from the chassis, design and engine from the 812 GTS to the delight of a Taiwanese customer, who will have paid a fortune to have a unique roadster built for him, with all its demands. As usual, the Italian supercar manufacturer does not indicate the amount of the check it received, but confirms that the owner of the new SP51 has clear finances, indicating that it is “a long-standing client” and one of its “main clients”. collectors”.

The result of meticulous work, which lasted almost two years, this unique It comes in the color “Rosso Passionale”, a three-layer paint created expressly for the SP51. The front and rear are crossed by a blue and white stripe that refers to the 1955 Ferrari 410S, an evocation that persists in some details of the interior, specifically in the central tunnel and the steering wheel seams. The headlights are also custom-made and therefore different from those of the 812 GTS. The rear, almost Targa-style, is reminiscent of the Maranello sports prototypes of the early 1960s. And all this is based on five-spoke wheels without lack of carbon fiber and with a diamond-cut finish.

Once on board, this convertible features an interior identical to the 812 GTS, suggesting that the work of the Special Projects team has been made easier. But not really, because the client wanted the Alcantara used in the linings to be the same Rosso Passionale that covers the exterior and also demanded the aforementioned blue and white stripe between the seats. Where this was not feasible, there are blue Kvadrat inserts accompanied by a white cross stitch. The passenger compartment also has several elements in carbon fiber, a material that can also be seen in the bodywork.

In the mechanical domain, there are no changes to note, that is, inside the huge front hood a V12 with 6.5 liters of capacity is installed. This atmospheric power unit delivers 800 hp and, more than that, 718 Nm at 7,000 rpm, and power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Remember that the 812 GTS announces 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds, and then continues to accelerate until it reaches a top speed of 340 km/h.
