Chinese archaeologists in central Henan Province have unearthed a preserved piece 80 meters long and 14 meters wide from a road built more than 3,000 years ago.
According to the Chinese Xinhua News Agency, the ancient road passes through the ancient city of Yinxu, which existed between 1600 and 1046 BC. This ancient city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Scientists noticed that this part of the road was paved with gravel and carefully selected pieces of bone and pottery, running from east to west.
He Yulin, a researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that there are grooves left by the wheels of carriages on the road. This road is parallel to a road about 500 meters away.
He added. Both roads intersected with the north-south road. Scientists discovered during the excavations that several thousand years ago it was a densely populated neighborhood with craft workshops and residential buildings.
According to He Yulin, this discovery is expected to allow experts to understand new important details about transportation and transportation development in ancient China. In addition, scholars hope to gain a clearer understanding of the period model of city governance and division of labor.
