Four people, including adults and two minors, were rescued this morning after the boat they were traveling in capsized at the entrance to the Setúbal bar, in the Cambalhão islet area, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported in a statement.
“After an alert received at 10 a.m., through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), informing that a vessel with three crew members on board had capsized, the command elements were immediately activated for the location of the Setúbal Maritime. Police and the Sesimbra Lifeguard Station,” the statement said.
AMN reported that, after arriving at the scene, three of the victims, two adults and one child, were rescued by a Clube Naval Setubalense boat and transferred to the Fontainhas dock where they were assisted by an INEM team due to signs of hypothermia. Then, the Setúbal Volunteer Firefighters took them to a hospital.
Regarding the fourth victim, a minor, AMN affirms that “he was helped and transported to the Tróia area by a kayaker who was in the vicinity, who was in good physical condition and did not need medical assistance, having been waiting for relatives at the GNR Post in Troia”.
The boat ended up sinking and a navigation notice was issued, attending the incident to the local command of the PSP.
