Viana do Castelo, Porto and Braga already had the same orange warning since Friday, due to bad weather, but this morning the IPMA updated the list of districts under orange warning to five, due to “persistent and sometimes heavy” rainfall. between 00:00 and 12:00 on Sunday.
Also on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, the IPMA placed the rest of the continent’s districts under yellow alert, the least serious of a scale of three, for maritime disturbance, persistent rain and strong wind.
Only in the archipelagos are green weather warnings provided, with the exception of two yellow warnings in Madeira, on the South Coast and in R. Montanhosas.
The worsening of the weather in the continent at the end of the year had already been announced by the IPMA, this Friday, announcing forecasts of rain and wind in the Miño and the Duero Litoral starting this Saturday afternoon, extending to the rest of the continent until long sunday. .
The orange alert, the second most serious of a scale of three, due to heavy rainfall, applies to these three districts in the north of mainland Portugal on the first day of 2023, between 00:00 and 12:00, according to the IPMA .
The National Maritime Authority (AMN) advises “not to go swimming” on the first day of 2023 and to avoid going to areas exposed to the agitation of the sea.
Civil Protection also warned about the possibility of flooding, landslides and groundwater tables on the roads due to forecasts of rain and strong winds starting Saturday, mainly in the North and Center regions.
