#3 Will Be Smart’s Electric Sports Coupe SUV

Smart has revealed early sketches of the #3, which is supposed to be a coupe-style crossover that’s substantially longer and roomier, yet slimmer than the #1 we’ve already featured here and is due to start delivery this summer. of 2023. The new model will be unveiled in its final form at the upcoming Shanghai, China auto show, but luckily some images have leaked online, giving you a very concrete idea of what the new Smart model will look like. .

#3 will be the second Smart model to hit the marketnow that the constructor is owned by joint project the 50:50 formed by the Germans from Mercedes and the Chinese from Geely. The Germans are primarily responsible for the design, while the Asians are in charge of the industrialization and production of vehicles, using specific platforms for electric models – in this case SEA, from Sustainable Experience Architecture – something that its partners still do not have. It is also Geely who supplies the motors, batteries and energy management systems, in a similar way to what already happens with the #1 and that will be reproduced in the rest of the new Smart models.

The revealed drawings of #3 show a vehicle SUV coupe styling, lower than traditional SUVs, including the #1, but with the same four doors to better suit family needs. And despite the difference in dimensions, #3 respects the same aesthetic solution introduced by #1, with smooth and aerodynamic lines.

oops! Do you want to see what the future Smart #3 will be like?

With about 4.40 m long, #3 is about 13 cm longer than #1, which in turn exhibits an overall length (4.27 m) similar to that of a VW ID.3. The fact that it also has a wheelbase more generous by 2.5 cm (2,785 m instead of 2,750 m), it not only provides more space to accommodate a pack of higher capacity batteries, as well as easier to accommodate the legs of those who sit in the back seat.

After being presented to the world in Shanghai at the event that will take place from April 18 to 27, the #3 will be shown to European customers in September at the IAA, the auto show that takes place in Munich from 5 to 10 , when pre-orders should be opened. The start of deliveries to customers in the Old Continent should only take place at the beginning of 2024.
