Temperatures drop in the north and center, but 20 municipalities in four districts are in maximum fire danger

Twenty-three municipalities in the districts of Lighthouse, Portalegre, Castelo Branco and Santarém this Wednesday they present a maximum danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Some 50 more municipalities in Faro, Beja, Lisbon, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Viseu, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Aveiro, Vila Real and Bragança present a very high risk of fire.

For this Wednesday on the continent, minimum temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 6 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) and 17 (in Faro). and the maximum between 19 (in Guarda and Porto) and 31 (in Faro).

Thus, the IPMA also placed several municipalities in all districts of the continent, except Porto and Viana do Castelo, at high risk of fire.

The risk of fire, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

The calculations are obtained from the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The Institute provides at least Until Sunday an increased risk of rural fire.

Since the beginning of the year, the 2,591 fire occurrences have already affected 7,671 hectares of rural areas.

The IPMA forecasts cloudy skies for this Wednesday on the continent, with periods of greater cloudiness due to high clouds in the North and Central regions, drop in temperaturesespecially in the North and Central regions and accentuated nocturnal cooling.

A light to moderate wind from the north/northwest is also expected, blowing moderately to strong and gusting up to 75 km/h on the west coast, in the western Algarve and in the mountains.

Due to the strong wind, the IPMA has brought the districts of Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro under control today. yellow warning due to the forecast of strong wind between 12:00 this Wednesday and 22:00 on Friday.

On Thursday the yellow warning due to strong wind is extended to the towns of Coimbra, Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo.

The notice for these districts will be in effect between 12:00 on Thursday and 10:00 on Friday.
