Lamborghini Urus SE. An 800 HP, 60 km PHEV in EV mode

The Italian manufacturer Lamborghini shook the market by being the first supercar manufacturer to propose an SUV, the Urus, as a complement to the traditional low coupes with space limitations that the brand has sold since its foundation. After launching the most powerful version of the Urus, which it called Performante and which extracts 666 HP from the 4.0 V8 biturbo engine, The brand created in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini has now decided to take the step with the plug-in hybrid version (PHEV), which it calls Urus SE..

The PHEV SUV from the Italian brand combines the usual 4.0 V8 biturbo with a 192 HP electric motor, powered by a larger battery than usualwith a capacity of 25.9 kWh, to ensure that it is capable of traveling 60 km in electric mode. The V8 combustion engine is “quieter” than the one installed in the Urus Performante and only provides 620 HP instead of 666 HP, but only by choice of the brand, which does not intend to raise the stakes further.

With 800 hp of combined power and 950 Nm of torque, the Urus SE comfortably surpasses the 666 hp and 850 Nm of the Urus Performante and the Urus S, but the additional weight of the electric motor and, above all, the battery, which should weigh about 315 kg, will have to be compensated for. This is judged by the weight of 2,540 kg, compared to the Performante and S, which weigh 2,225 kg. The greatest power explains a maximum speed of 312 km/hinstead of the 306 km/h of the Performante and S, but it will be the greater weight behind the 3.4 seconds needed to go from 0 to 100 km/hslightly below the 3.3 claimed by the Performante.

If at this point you are wondering if the Urus SE has better performance on the track than the Urus Performante, we can continue with the statements of Lamborghini’s technical director, Rouven Mohr, who assured Autocar that the Urus SE, using the same tires, It’s faster around the track than the Performante. with 666 hp.

It is worth remembering that this is not the first PHEV from Lamborghini, which recently presented the V12 Revuelto coupe, technology that will return to the brand soon, when the successor to the Huracán appears. This path towards electrification will reach its peak in 2028, when Lamborghini’s first electric model, the Lanzador crossover, will be presented.
