Storm Boris: EU mobilises to help Member States affected by floods

Several EU member states have mobilised to send aid to the Czech Republic and Poland, two of the member states affected by severe flooding caused by Storm Boris, the European Commission announced on Friday.

The Czech Republic received dehumidifiers —essential for drying out water-damaged buildings and aiding recovery efforts—sent by Slovenia, Belgium, Croatia and Germany.

Sweden responded to Poland’s request for water treatment supplies by sending hundreds of packages of disinfectant.

On Thursday, the President of the European Commission, who visited a flooded area in Poland, had already announced that 10 billion euros would be mobilised from cohesion funds to help the countries of Central and Eastern Europe affected by the floods.

Storm Boris has already killed at least 21 people: seven in Romania, seven in Poland, four in Austria and three in the Czech Republic, and has also affected northern Italy, where two people are missing.
