Pig farmers must re-declare their animals in December, one of the measures to control Aujeszky’s disease, and those who do not comply face sanctions, the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) reported this Monday.
As a general rule, pigs must be declared in April, August and December.
“During the month of December 2024, the operators of all pig farms are obliged to declare the herds they have, referring to the 1st of said month”reads a notice from the DGAV.
The operator can make the declarations on the portal of the Institute for Financing of Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP), in the regional departments of food and veterinary services or in farmers’ organizations registered with IFAP.
This health measure aims to control Aujeszky’s disease.
The virus, which affects the respiratory and reproductive systems of pigs, can also be transmitted through pigs to other animals.
If they do not comply with this measure, pig farmers are subject to sanctions, such as the operator not issuing pig transit guides for life, through iDigital.
The DGAV is a central service of direct administration of the State, with administrative autonomy.
