Chinese authorities arrested a man who gifted a woman a hidden spy camera in the mirror for live broadcast and urged her to use it while naked.
A man named Zhang from Guangdong Province in southern China has been charged with illegally modifying, selling and using a hidden camera. According to the “scmp” website, Zhang works as a hidden camera specialist, runs an online store that sells modified hidden camera devices, and has sold at least 210 similar spy devices so far.
This was discovered when an acquaintance from work sent a mirror to a publisher named Lee.
Zhang asked Li to keep the glass plugged in and turned on 24 hours a day, saying it prevents the circuit board from catching fire.
Li found this claim strange, but not too offensive, until Zhang later told him that one of the advantages of glass was the use of glass without clothes, which he called “naked beauty. . ”
He then called me selling the product and advised him to check if there was a camera in the mirror.
“When I disassembled it, I saw it had four HD pinhole cameras and five 32GB memory cards,” Li said in an open letter posted online.
The local police immediately informed me of the discovery. “One of the records on the memory card was tagged in 2019, so I realized I might not be the first victim,” he said.
After he was arrested, Zhang admitted that he put the camera in the glass and installed a series of hidden cameras in his ex-girlfriend’s house, which are still working.
The story has caused widespread concern about the use of hidden cameras in China.
According to Chinese legal services platform Lvtu, taking obscene images can violate a person’s personal rights, but in China it is not a crime. However, according to criminal laws, anyone who uses hidden webcams can be prosecuted if proven to be in violation of the law.
In 2019, a local court in southwest China sentenced a man to 3½ years in prison after he installed hidden cameras in several hotels and sold the recordings online.
And in 2016, a court in southeastern China’s Anhui Province sentenced a man to five years in prison after he threatened a former employee with hidden-camera photos of where he was bathing.
