unions Newspaper “New York Times journalists accused the newspaper of giving lower performance scores to non-white employees than to white employees.
The New York Times Guild, which includes more than 1,300 unionized journalists, published their allegations in a report Tuesday.
now, @nytimesguild published reports on persistent racial differences in performance ratings. @New York Times.

The union said that “white guild members are more likely to score the highest, while black and Hispanic members are more likely to score the last two.”
According to the report:
In 2021, 32 percent of white guild members were in one of the top two categories, compared to 21 percent of Hispanic members and 18 percent of black members. But only 25 percent of white members earned one of the two lowest scores, compared to 49 percent of Hispanic or Latino members and 36 percent of black members.
In addition, the union claims that in 2021, white workers are 47.2% more likely to rank than black workers, 61.2% higher than Hispanics, and 34.2% higher than Asians.
Data from the report shows that white workers made up a higher percentage of guild members in 2021 compared to black, Hispanic and Asian workers.
For performance evaluations, Sometimes uses a six-level rating system; however, only three received the lowest score in the last three years. The guild acknowledged this in its report, noting that the ranks were “effectively a five-level system.”
The Guild noted that most employees with higher performance scores received pay increases. For example, those with the highest score received a bonus of 1.9%, and those with a “meets expectations” score received a 1.5% bonus.
The union said it was the group most affected as many of the minority guild members did not receive bonuses for lower performance scores.
Although the report highlighted numerous examples of “racial imbalance” in its findings, the guild made no specific explanation as to why this occurred.
“It is unclear whether the racial imbalance is the result of problems with the performance appraisal system itself, or whether the system recognizes barriers to success for people of color in the company,” said the Guild.
All findings in the report consist of labor productivity data from 2018 to 2021 provided to the newspaper guild. The data in the report concerns only guild members, not everyone. Sometimes employees.
Sometimes The union criticized the Guild for not giving the company enough time to review the results, as it only presented the report to them on August 17. However, the Guild document states that they are committed to a “fair and impartial performance appraisal system.”
Focusing only on 2018 and 2019 data, the association published a similar report in 2020, claiming the role of racial differences in how they conducted performance reviews.
Sometimes responded to this report by reviewing the union’s findings and finding that, despite minor differences, there were no signs of systemic problems.
This is not the only current disagreement between the Guild and the Guild. SometimesAs tensions are already high between the ongoing contract negotiations between the two parties, New York Post reported recently. The last contract between them expired in March 2021.
Although the leftist newspaper appears to be conflicting with its own staff on race issues, the newspaper has a history of publishing racially discriminatory materials.
According to Breitbart News, Newspaper “New York Times It exacerbated racial tensions in the country due to the publication of the “Project 1619,” which largely misinformed racial historical events in the United States.
