As a child, he drew paper dolls and cut clothes to dress them. There was no doubt that she wanted to be a fashion designer, “that’s what they called it then”, but at the age of 18 she changed her plans, worried about the lack of professional opportunities. She worked in marketing and advertising, but ended up galloping, years later, on top of the fashion bug, heading to New York to get that fashion design course she’d adhered to since she was a child out of the system. She did an internship at Zac Posen’s atelier, she even wanted to stay forever in the city that never sleeps, but her roots spoke louder. She returned to Portugal and began to trace her path, a kaleidoscope of the things that she liked the most, visual communication, styling, extending a hand to those who needed some dressing advice. “Life ends up doing these things, we put together various parts of what we like,” recalls María Guedes, 44, in an interview with the Observer.

In January 2009, he found himself adding these clues: “At some point I realized I had a manuscript in there.” She had a manuscript and she had hands to illustrate it. They spent two years learning in New York, yes, and many more drawing as a child, so she entertained herself when she took refuge in her world, influenced by her mother who watched the fashion shows in the Plaza de España By television. In November of that year, Porto Editora published the book So many clothes and nothing to wear, while the Stylista blog gained readers. She received invitations to appear on television, the brands wanted to work with her, everything developed naturally until, in 2013, she asked her friend Mafalda Anjos to organize one of the editions of her market, the Colares Market, with the Portuguese projects. that he knew and that he wanted to make known. After two editions, she realized that she needed more space and moved to Fiartil, in Estoril. This is how Market Stylista was born, which turns 10 this weekend, on May 27 and 28, in a special summer edition with music, drinks and parties. “I hope the weather is good”, encourages the founder in this conversation that begins with a trip back in time.
