Protests continue in Iran over rising prices for flour, bread and other foodstuffs.
After the imposition of a strong security atmosphere by Iranian forces on Saturday in Tehran and a number of cities including Mahabad, Sanandaj, Noorabad Mamasani, Malayer, Farsan and Boroujerd, the protests spread to areas of Khuzestan province in the southwest of the country. Country.
Security forces opened fire on protesters and arrested dozens of them.
Social media also posted videos in which protesters chanted slogans against the Iranian regime.
Meanwhile, a member of parliament announced the death of a person in angry protests this week against the government’s decision to increase the price of basic foodstuffs.
It is worth noting that Iran is facing an economic and livelihood crisis, mainly due to the sanctions that Washington re-imposed on Tehran, after the first decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear program agreement in 2018.
The consequences of this crisis have especially affected living standards, exchange rates and inflation, which exceed 40% per year.
On Monday night, President Ibrahim Ra’isi announced a series of measures to tackle the country’s economic problems, including fundamental changes in the government’s support system and rising prices for items such as cooking oil, meat and eggs.
And in the interval between a big announcement and the official implementation of prices on Friday, hundreds of people took to the streets in several cities, especially in the south of the country, such as Khuzestan province (southwest). The media reported on Friday without mentioning any casualties in the margins.
