Hundreds demonstrated in N’Djamena on Saturday to protest France’s presence in Chad, accusing Paris of supporting the ruling military junta, AFP reported.

Authorities allowed this demonstration, organized by the opposition civil society platform Waket Tama, and a large police force cordoned off the march and deployed security forces to the city.

At the rally on Saturday, many students and university students on motorcycles joined the demonstrators, shouting “France, go”.

“I’m pretending to be Greek because France still wants to impose the Deby regime on us,” said a high school student wearing a white scarf.

“If we continue to suffer now since independence, it prevents us from being truly independent because of France,” said Idris Moussa, an Arabic -speaking teacher.

“We are glad that Chadians are more aware of our struggle and are joining us,” said lawyer Max Loningar, coordinator of “Wakeet Tama”.

On April 6, the “Wacket Tama” platform announced the suspension of talks with the military council and specifically denounced the “insistence of the international community to support an illegal and illegitimate regime at all costs”.

While acknowledged by the international community, particularly France, the European Union and the African Union, sanctions have been imposed on military coups elsewhere in Africa, primarily because its army is indispensable in the fight against terrorists. jihadist in the Sahel region.

In June 2021, the president of Chad presented the idea of ​​extending the transition period and announced on May 1 that the national dialogue had been postponed, at the request of Qatar, mediating a “preparatory dialogue” that was already underway. Located for two months in Doha between the military council and several rebel groups.

The French presidency responded by saying it was “committed” to resuming a dialogue “as soon as possible”, and then offered to help France a few days later.
