Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto pointed out that “all the issues that Turkey has recently raised can be resolved” on the sidelines of his country’s bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

And he explained, during his participation in a joint program of Swedish and Finnish television, that on Saturday he met with his Swedish counterpart Anne Linde and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. He pointed out that the accession of the two countries to NATO is possible for a long time “because of Turkey’s reservations.”

It is noteworthy that the ambassadors of Sweden and Finland to the European Union in Brussels submitted to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg an application from their countries to join the alliance.

On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed “Turkey’s reservations about Sweden and Finland joining NATO” and said that “they do not take a clear position on terrorist organizations and Ankara cannot agree to their entry at this stage.”
