The African Union sought help in Berlin in dealing with the effects of the war in Ukraine on the African continent.
The current head of the African Union, Macky Sall of Senegal, has asked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to help Berlin and said he will visit Kyiv and Moscow soon.
“We want peace for Africa,” said Sall, noting that the fighting had “affected us but only happened” on other continents.
“We are working to reduce tensions by calling for a ceasefire, dialogue and a just peace for Ukraine and Russia,” he said.
The German adviser to the Senegalese president stressed that Westerners are not indifferent to rising food and fuel prices and the threat of hunger and promised to do everything they can to help.
He stressed that Germany will continue to support countries suffering from food shortages and will continue to make an active commitment so that we can export grain from Ukraine.
Senegal became one of 58 countries that abstained from the United Nations General Assembly on April 7 over the decision to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council because of military operations in Ukraine.
