Possible monkeypox vaccine

With the spread of the disease in the United States and Europe, Moderna is testing a potential monkeypox vaccine in preclinical trials.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday that “since the first case of the disease was reported,” the number of confirmed cases of chickenpox has risen to 131, along with 106 other suspected cases. “

And the first infection with the disease was reported on May 7, outside the countries where the virus usually spreads.

Moderna has not yet provided further details about the vaccine.

Earlier, a senior World Health Organization official said, “The organization does not believe that monkey pox outbreaks outside Africa will guarantee widespread vaccination campaigns.”

He added that taking other measures, including personal hygiene and safe sexual behaviors, will help control the spread of the disease.

“Immediate supply of vaccines and antiviral drugs is relatively limited,” Richard Pibadi, head of the World Health Organization’s Dangerous Pathogens Team in Europe, told Reuters.

Peabody’s comments came as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that it was releasing doses of the Genius vaccine for use in monkeypox cases.
