Britain enters the skies of Qatar … what is the reason?

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the Royal Air Force Typhoon aircraft will participate with Qataris in securing the Qatar World Cup.

The Qatari foreign minister told the Telegraph that officers from the Royal Air Force and Navy would patrol the Qatari skies during the tournament to protect it from terrorist acts.

The Typhoon Joint Squadron, also known as the 12th Squadron, was based in the United Kingdom in cooperation with the Qatari Air Force Typhoon.

According to the Telegraph, this is the first time that the United Kingdom has provided this level of security for hosting the World Cup outside the United Kingdom.

A security source confirmed to the newspaper that the Qatari Ministry of Defense will support the tournament with military capabilities to counter terrorism and other threats through the use of maritime security, operational planning and command and control support.

The Typhoon Joint Squadron is the first British Joint Squadron since World War II and has conducted regular exercises in Qatar.

The Qatari Air Force will oversee the air security of the tournament and conduct most of the operations, while the British participation will depend on experience and capabilities.

Delivery of the first Typhoon aircraft to Qatar is expected to begin in August.
